Dubai: Residents in Dubai can now drive an electric car without the cost of purchasing one.

On Sunday, the online car rental company SelfDrive.ae announced the launch of a new segment of electric cars to its fleet.

Speaking about the introduction of electric cars to its fleet, Soham Shah, founder and director at Pinewoods Technology Services Dubai, said: “We are thankful to the Road Transport Authority and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) for collaborating to incentivize electric cars by allowing free charging across all Dewa car charging stations, free parking and Salik tags.”

The new fleet of cars will consist of the Renault Zoe All Electric Car at an introductory price of Dh5 an hour with a minimum billing cycle of 24 hours, with a range of 250 kilometres per day.

The electric cars can also be reserved for a day, week or for a monthly lease.

Shah added that electric car users will also have the advantage of charging their car for free at any of the 90 charging stations offered by the Dewa.
