Etisalat yesterday announced its Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) and Al Mersal Voice Mail services can now be enjoyed by all subscribers without registration fees.

Etisalat's initiative is understood to be another effort to provide more competitive customer-centric services in the face of du's launch, which is scheduled for today.

All etisalat mobile customers can now follow a simple set-up process and proceed to use these services.

Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) enables customers to communicate in sound and colour, and exchange voice clips, images and videos with other users. To register via SMS, etisalat customers simply need to type "r mms" in the message field and send to 1010. MMS Usage charges are 45fils/50 KB for local messages, and Dh1.80/50KB for international MMS messages.

From the UAE, etisalat customers can send MMS to other etisalat mobile customers, and to international mobile numbers in all the GCC countries, as well as Jordan, India, Philippines, Malaysia and many other nations.

Etisalat customers can also use the MMS service while roaming abroad in more than 160 of the 466 networks worldwide that etisalat has roaming agreements with. Some of the top countries in which customers can send MMS while roaming include the GCC countries, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Syria and Pakistan.

The Al Mersal Voice Mail service is a 24-hour answering facility, which the user can customise with a personalised greeting. Each message stored is date and time stamped, and can be accessed locally and internationally. To access your voice mail from UAE, the charges are 18 fils per minute.

Once a voice mail service is activated, calls are directed to the voice mail box when the mobile is switched off, out of the coverage area or unanswered. To activate the voice mail service, customers can dial 125 from their mobile.

Callers to customers who have voice mail services can choose to leave voice messages directly to the mailbox, however, for this the caller would have to include the "08" prefix before calling the etisalat mobile number.
