Abu Dhabi, Jul. 15, 2009 (WAM) -- The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), in collaboration with the Social Affairs Ministry of the Palestinian National Authority, has completed Phase 1 of a microeconomic development project for people with special needs in Palestine. The project consists of providing microfinance in the form of fully stocked trading kiosks, which shall be run by special needs people, selling various kinds of essential commodities to earn a living for themselves and their families.

The project is aimed at economically empowering this segment of the society to enable them rely on themselves and provide for them permanent sources of income.

The RCA and the Social Affairs Ministry jointly distributed the kiosks to 24 beneficiaries, comprising the first group of beneficiaries of the programme, while the second group of beneficiaries totalling 21 individuals, will soon receive their kiosks. Palestinian Social Affairs Minister, Majda Almisry and other officials from the two institutions, were present during the distribution.

The Palestinian minister expressed profound gratitude to the UAE government and people for the kind gesture. She praised President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his continuous assistance to the Palestinian people and their cause. She applauded the UAE RCA for its innovative and sustainable assistance to the Palestinian people.

The beneficiaries of the programme also expressed their profound happiness and gratitude to the government and people of the UAE.
