MUSCAT -- The Philippine Overseas Labour Office (POLO), under the Philippine Embassy in Muscat, and in cooperation with its attached agency, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Equitable-PCI Bank will be issuing the OFW e-Cards for qualified Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Sultanate of Oman tomorrow and on Friday, from 10am to 4pm at the POLO Building located at Building 1045, Way 3015, Al Kharijiya Street, Jawharat Al Shatti.
The e-card is an identification/multi-function card issued by the Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) of the Philippines through its attached agencies, OWWA and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and given free of charge to all qualified OFWs. OFWs who are processing their employment with the POEA and upon payment of $25 or its equivalent as OWWA membership fee are qualified for the issuance of the e-card.
OFWs abroad whose OWWA memberships are renewed at the respective OWWA overseas offices and those whose membership are still valid for at least six months, may also be issued an e-card. The e-card, at the option of the OFW, may be used as a remittance card and ATM or Debit Card.
According to Art Gamolo, welfare officer, in addition to the issuance of the new e-cards, OFW e-card holders may also activate its banking features during the same period. "The intricacies on the use of an ATM card and VISA Electron debit card will also be discussed during this period," added Gamolo.
