'Spying Agents Exploit Kuwaiti Environment'
KUWAIT CITY, July 3: The security agencies have reportedly uneart-hed more than one spy network in the country recently, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting knowledgeable sources without going into details.
The sources say a lot of spy networks use Kuwait as a transit point to spy on some neighboring countries. The Interior Ministry and the military intelligence operatives were able to monitor and detect these networks which exploit the Kuwaiti environment.
The sources stressed the security agencies closely follow up the activities of some liaison officers who oversee directly these spy networks that work undercover -- either media, political, economic, liberal or sectarian.
The sources added Kuwait has become a fertile soil for regional and international spying activities to such an extent a lot of regional and foreign intelligence services coordinate with each other taking advantage of the democratic atmosphere in the country simply because Kuwait is lenient when it comes to granting visit visas, whether for tourism, work, or for activities of companies.
The sources said one local newspaper in the country operates for the benefit of these agents and spies in the name of promoting freedom and is known to host intellectuals belonging to regional and international intelligence agencies. The daily added many espionage activities have been detected but remains largely unannounced for security reasons.
A security expert said Kuwait is witnessing increasing activities from regional and international intelligence agencies. These activities are carried out under the cover of embassy work and in most cases some countries send their spies to Kuwait under the pretext of attending conferences or for media work.
