ABU DHABI, 16 November 2013 (WAM) -The antics of the Israeli government have reached the point of ridiculousness, a UAE newspaper has said.
On one hand, Tel Aviv talks of wanting a lasting peace with Palestinians and engages in talks. At the same time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approves tenders for the construction of more than 20,000 new houses in colonies on land stolen and illegally occupied by his Jewish state. While he has put this latest affront to the repressed Palestinian people on hold for now, and temporarily it would seem given his dismal track record enough is enough," English language daily Gulf News commented today. Last Wednesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced his peace negotiators had resigned over the lack of progress in US-brokered statehood talks clouded by Israeli colony building. "Let us be clear: The Israelis under Netanyahu have never been serious in reaching a deal. When it came to the release of Palestinian prisoners as a precondition for attending the talks, few but those nearing the end of their long sentences were free. And more colony homes were announced to coincide with the talks. When US Vice-President Joe Biden visited Israel to push for talks, Netanyahu responded with an announcement of more colony homes. And when Secretary of State John Kerry visited to move the talks along, even more colony homes were announced. When Palestinians seek talks on having unfettered access to their own territory, they are met with plans for homes and colonist communities where olive trees stood for generations," the paper added. "When Palestinian negotiators talk about values of equality and justice, they are met with the spectre of bulldozers and the homes of their people are razed to the ground to make way for new colonies where transplanted Jews can steal sweet water from their aquifers and turn Palestinian wells dry. And when all right-thinking nations try to stop these colonies they are met with the veto and sole support of the US as it backs Israel in its unjust march to new colonies. You cannot talk peace when the person opposite is deaf to the calls of millions, blind to justice, mute to the cries of occupation, tastes only unyielding support from Washington and seeks to touch nothing but the profits from unfettered colonisation," it concluded.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2013.
