Gulf Downstream Association (GDA) recently organised a three-day Refinery Business Economics course for employees of Bahrain Petroleum Company and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in co-ordiantion with industrial giant Honeywell UOP.

GDA was founded by Saudi Aramco, Bapco, Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI), Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) and Adnoc.

A non-profit organisation, GDA aims to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices, while raising the efficiency of employees in the sector of refining, distribution and associated facilities, as well as contributing to the economic and social development of the GCC countries.

The three-day programme saw experts deliver a series of industry courses, catering to entry-level chemical engineers, as well as engineers from various disciplines moving into the refining and petrochemicals industry.

These courses are being delivered at a time when regional governments in the Middle East are striving to address a growing industrial skills gap, said the statement from GDA.

The course provided participants with a comprehensive knowledge on the variables that affect refinery economics including refinery configuration, capabilities and constraints, it stated.

Participating employees left the course being able to better identify key elements of the refinery business environment including refinery process schemes, refinery planning processes, understand the role of linear programming in evaluating refinery projects and how to rank potential projects for implementation, among other related topics, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
