MUSCAT -- Unleashing insights on engineering as a profession and as a responsible field of activity that can contribute to the building of a society, a 5-day-course on Value Engineering begun at the City Seasons Hotel in Al Khuwair yesterday. As many as 17 Omani engineers from both public and private sectors are attending the course that sheds light on the intricacies of modern engineering and the most practical solutions available in the industry.

Organised by the Omani Society of Engineers (OSE), several experts in the industry from across the region will deliver lectures that will add value to the workshop. Khamis al Souli, Board member of OSE welcomed the participants and Abdul Majeed delivered the first lecture. "The basic aim of this 'Value Engineer Course' is to improve the engineering facilities in the country vis-à-vis that of the other countries in the region", Saeed Hilal al Busaidi, Administration Manager of OSE, said.

One of the participants, Alaa Said al Jardaniya, Process Engineer, Asset Planning Department at the Haya Water, said: "Value Engineering is proving to be useful in analysing the functions of systems, equipment, facilities, services and supplies for purpose of achieving the essential function at the lowest life cycle cost consistent with required performance, reliability, quality and safety. I strongly believe that workshops like this can really help improve our skills and abilities needed at work". The workshop will wrap up on Wednesday.
