Dubai Filipino Muslim children outshone adults at the first UAE-Philippine Muslim Islamic quiz bee at the Department of Islamic Affairs on Wednesday.
Three Filipino Muslim girls bagged the first prize for answering 29 out of 30 questions about Islam correctly. Competition was tough in the category as four tie-breaker questions were needed to determine second and third places.
A total of 27 children aged between six to 15 participated in the competition.
Opportunity
“This marks the beginning of a solid community, united in the mighty name of Allah,” said Wafa Kasimieh, Senior Adviser of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department.
“This is an opportunity to give us time to share our knowledge and expertise about our Islamic culture,” Vice consul Edwin Mendoza said in his message.
“Thirteen years ago, there was no official organisation that would look after Filipino Muslims. Now, with more and more Islamic centres being put up, Filipino Muslims are getting acquainted and organised,” said Ustadz Yahyah Maquiran.
