The upcoming Professional Development sessions will examine public sector HR development and management policies and systems, and the current challenges organizations face in developing, attracting, integrating, and empowering human capital and knowledge.

The course will look into how systems and practices reflect the values inherent in public service in developing and transitional countries, with an emphasis on the GCC countries. Participants will be also exposed to the current environment in human resources, labor and employment laws, the assessment, acquisition, development, and utilization of human resources, and the strategies involved in compensation, collective bargaining, job enrichment and motivation.

The Professional Development sessions, which will be attended by around 35 working women from various public sector industries, are expected to progress in a highly interactive manner, through lectures, discussions and role-play sessions held alongside case studies, exercises and presentations.

The agenda will progress thematically, with each day dedicated to different aspects of human resource management and development, namely: The Context of Human Resource Development and Management focusing on providing international and regional perspectives on recent challenges facing human resource development and management as well as the current trends and opportunities in the field of human resources; Strategic Human Resource Development and Planning addressing current trends and approaches to strategic human resource development and planning and highlighting the importance of strategic and integrative approaches to HRD activities; Strategic Human Resource Management focusing on the workplace itself and how organization environment and management systems are effective in managing, motivating and utilizing old and newly acquired resources to support high performance; and Strategic Knowledge and Talent Management which will address how effective the Gulf countries have been in capturing the knowledge of the expatriate workforce and transferring and localising it to people and institutions.

"This latest series of Professional Development sessions builds on the programs focus of offering UAE women the unique opportunity to imbibe the experience and expertise of industry leaders. The theme of the Professional Development sessions tie into Dubai Women Establishments goal of growing the skill base and insight of the UAEs female work force and equipping them with the ability to think strategically and manage the resources including human resources at their disposal in the work place," said Shamsa Saleh, CEO of DWE. "Our previous sessions have received a high degree of appreciation for their content and the quality of discourse raised over topics of great interest to women looking to progress to positions of leadership within their careers," she added.

DWEs Professional Development Sessions are based on the results of a survey conducted among working women in Dubai in 2008 that highlighted 9 areas that women need to focus on to build leadership qualities and achieve success in their professional lives. The sessions, which were launched in 2008, have to date covered a number of these pertinent issues, including change management, leadership styles, the development of influencing skills, the identification and discussion of problems related to personality dimensions, group dynamics, setting boundaries and dealing with diversity issues in the work place.
