Doha When Typhoon Ketsana hit the Philippines in September, several associates from the Manila Marriott Hotel and Renaissance Makati were affected by the disaster. Some lost their homes and belongings and, in the most severe cases, their loved ones.

Following the companies ‘Spirit to Serve the Community' Spirit, within a few days, associates from the Doha Marriott Hotel sprang to action by collecting donations of clothing, bedding, cash and many other items for the associates in need.

Doha Marriott's General Manager Saeed Heidari states: "Our hearts go out to the victims of the flooding in Manila and surrounding areas where scores of lives have been claimed following the arrival of Typhoon Ketsana on Saturday, September 26, 2009. We are deeply saddened to hear of the personal losses suffered by so many of our associates in the Philippines.

"Marriott International has a long-standing tradition of supporting the cities, towns and neighbourhoods around the globe that we call home. Marriott's pledge is that every community where we have a presence will be a better place to live and work because we are there.

Marriott's social responsibility and community engagement programmes do not only benefit our communities, but strengthen our culture, help attract and retain valued associates, and provide work/life balance and personal development opportunities.

Nenabette K. Quinto, Director of Human Resources of the Marriott Hotel Manila said: "We are very grateful for the thoughtfulness of the Doha Marriott team."
