Visiting Congo Foreign Minister Alexis Thambwe Mwamba asked for the cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in his country's industrial projects.

Mwamba, at a meeting with Iranian Minister of Industry and Mines Ali Akbar Mehrabian, referred to Iran's capabilities in various fields saying "Mowamba needs Iran's help in industrial plans", Moj News Agency reported.

"Congo will establish its embassy in Tehran on the aim of expending ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran as a reliable trade partner," Mowamba said.

Iran can play an important role in Congo's 20-year Development Plan, he added.

Mehrabian referred to Iran's capabilities in industry and mining sectors and voiced readiness for having multilateral ties with Congo.

Iran has started certain geological studies in Congo which can be accelerated in the near future, Mehrabian emphasized.

Mwamba, heading a delegation, arrived in Tehran on Wednesday and held meetings with a number of Iranian officials.

Earlier on Wednesday, the top diplomats of the two countries had held a meeting in which Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki had underlined that the two countries' presidents were determined to establish excellent, deep and strategic ties.

He emphasized the need for identifying the two countries' potentials for mutual cooperation.

"Establishment of a joint economic commission, cooperation in mine and agricultural, oil and gas exploration, manufacturing passenger cars and home appliances, setting up irrigation systems and construction of dam and cement factory are among the important fields of cooperation," Mottaki said.
