More than half of car buyers reckon the price they pay for their vehicles in Dubai is "unreasonable".

A car consumer poll by the Department of Economic Development in 2013 showed that a "significant number of customers - 51 per cent" aren't pleased with the price of purchase.

The 2013 survey included feedback from 890 customers dealing with 10 leading car dealers in Dubai, according to the Department of Economic Development.

"A significant number of buyers are from the middle income group and they are looking for high quality and cutting edge technology along with competitive prices," said Omar Bushahab, chief executive officer of commercial compliance and consumer protection (CCCP) at DED.

Bushahab added: "Some of the car agencies are addressing these demands appropriately. And the rating shows they are the ones that get the best outcomes."

Yet, 23.7 per cent of consumers are generally dissatisfied with car agencies in Dubai. The survey also showed a top concern for 41.3 per cent of consumers in the car sector is lack of clarity in policies on warranty and services. The survey says 84 per cent of customers go back to their dealer for after-sales service.

The major attraction that dealers hold for 78 per cent of customers is the transparency in billing - as 74.9 per cent rated service quality as good.
