Saudi-based Al Ra'idah Investment Company has shortlisted three main contractors for the construction of the USD 300 million National Aquarium project in the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh.

In an exclusive interview, a source familiar with the project told Zawya that the three shortlisted bidders are El Seif Engineering Contracting Company Ltd., Saudi Constructioneers Est. (SAUDICO), and a consortium comprising Al Bawani Co. Ltd. and Bin Ladin Contracting & Trading Co. Ltd. (Saudi Bin Ladin Group).

"The main construction contract is expected to be awarded by August 10, 2014. The tender for the National Aquarium, which is part of the Parcel A03 at KAFD project, was announced in May 2013 and was [originally] expected to be awarded by September 2013," the source said.

"The deadline to submit [tenders] was rescheduled to February 10, 2014 from the [earlier] deadline in August 2013."

US-based Cambridge Seven Associates is the architectural and design consultant for the project, while Hill International is the project management consultant.

The 92,000-square-foot National Aquarium, also known as the Wonders of Wildlife, will include a nature walk route with interactive galleries, animals and a river flowing through the development.

The project is expected to be completed by February 2016.
