DOHA: The Department of Quality, Safety and Environment (QSED) of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) reopened its modified quality laboratory. In an open session held for the inauguration of the lab, attendees were taken for a roundtrip of the lab to explore the potential of post-development phases and benefit from it in the field of testing and sampling.

Ashghal dignitaries, engineers and experts including Eng Khalid Mohammed al Emadi, QSED Manager, Dr Mohamed Saif Al Kuwari, Director of Qatar Specifications and Standards Authority, Ahmed Rashid Sahoti, the General Services Manager at Ashghal, Eng Jamal Shanzur Al Yafey, Head of Quality, Eng Abdulrazaq Shaheen Al Kuwari, Head of Laboratories Unit, in addition to a number of dignitaries at Ashghal and officials of private labs in the state attended the opening session.

The QSED Manager Eng Al Emadi said in his presentation that the laboratory is based on the policy of upholding quality. The best available equipment were chosen and work to measure the quality of water used in infrastructure projects (roads and drainage and buildings) has already started, he added. He further clarified that compatibility of the laboratory with international regulations and the application of International Standards ISO 17025 has been studied by using appropriate solutions.

The laboratory covers testing of water quality, soil and liquid waste, which includes the chemical and biological laboratory tests for water, in addition to the possibility of collecting samples from the sites through the use of traditional and automated methods of sample collection, with the possibility of remote controlling and tracking samples and their results, in addition to participation in research, development and follow-up of the operation of treatment plants. The QSED has modified the laboratory in order to keep pace with developments in projects and to ensure the quality and accuracy of all tests. Through this renovated lab, the QESD intends to provide better services to departments and affairs of Ashghal that supervise the infrastructure projects of the state, including Operation and Maintenance Department, Buildings Affairs etc in addition to the segment outside Ashghal, which has stake in the laboratory related works such as the Minstry of Environment and organisations in the field of tests as well as private laboratories working in Qatar.
