ABU DHABI- The agricultural supply centres of the Abu Dhabi Farmers Services Centres, ADFSC, achieved significant growth in their sales by a figure of 21.4 percent during the first quarter of 2018, compared to the same period of 2017.
The total sale of seeds, fertilisers, irrigation equipment, feed additives and other agricultural supplies reached 34,169 products, compared to 28,186 last year. The sales values of these products also increased by 14.9 percent to AED1.7 million during the first quarter of this year, compared to AED1.5 million for the first quarter of 2017.
The centres have six branches around Abu Dhabi that sell agricultural supplies, with three centres in the Al Dhafra Region in Zayed City, Muzairaa and Ghayathi, as well as two centres in Al Khatm and Al Rahba, Abu Dhabi, along with the main centre in Al Khubaissi, Al Ain. The centres aim to provide agricultural supplies at competitive prices and support farmers by providing consultations and raising their awareness about the ideal use of agricultural supplies, as well as informing them about the best types of fertilisers, the quantities required for each crop, and the appropriate agricultural techniques to increase productivity. This reflects the development of the local agricultural sector and will help to increase the income of farmers. According to the sales statistics, fertilisers, seeds and pesticides made up the majority of the centres’ sales, which reached a value of around AED1.49 million, or 88.2 percent of their total sales income and 54 percent of their total sold quantities.
The centres sell seeds, fertilisers, veterinary materials and feed additives, as well as pesticides, irrigation supplies, greenhouse materials, personal protective equipment, poultry breeding materials, bee production equipment, and landscaping and garden facilities. Dhafer Al Qasimi, Director of the Operations and Trade Administration, said that the centres are key to supporting farmers and increasing their income, as well as directly support local products, as they provide agricultural supplies at competitive prices, which will reduce the production costs of farms owners, increase their profits, and ensure sustainable agriculture.
