DUBAI (Zawya Dow Jones)--Oman Telecommunications Co., or Omantel, has appointed Talal bin Said Al-Ma'amari as its chief financial officer, the company said Sunday on the Muscat Securities Market website.

"The decision was made yesterday and it is effective as of today," Mohammed Yahya Rashid Al Salmi, the telco's spokesman told Zawya Dow Jones on telephone. Both the posts are newly created, he added.

Prior to this posting, Al-Ma'amari "lead the finance function" in Omantel for the past 5 years, Omantel said on its website.

The telco also said in the bourse statement that it has appointed Samy bin Ahmed Al-Ghassani to the post of chief operating officer. Al Ghassani has been working for Omantel and Oman Mobile for the past 17 years and he has management experience in telecommunications networks and information technology, according to Omantel's website.

Omantel shares closed up 0.2% at OMR1.295 Sunday.
