Dubai - Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has started a AED 108 million project to supply, extend, and launch a 16km main water distribution network between Jebel Ali and Al Quoz. The project supports DEWA's strategy to meet the electricity and water requirements for the overall development of Dubai, which supports Dubai Plan 2021.

"DEWA is focused on further enhancing the efficiency and capacity of the infrastructure to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity and water to secure the increasing needs of customers, developers, and other business sectors, to help enhance the sustainable development of Dubai," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

"The project includes extending the 1,200 mm Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) water transmission pipeline by a further 16km, from Jebel Ali, through Al Khail Road, to the pumping station complex in Al Quoz. It also includes a remote control and monitoring system to enhance transmission capacity between Jebel Ali and the main pumping stations in Al Quoz. The project also includes connecting the main transmission lines in different locations to increase water flow and meet increasing demand in those areas according to approved plans," added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer noted that the project is expected be completed in September 2016.
