Dubai, May 15th, 2012: Interior Design Students at the American University in Dubai (AUD) add more victories to the university by winning the first three places during "The Hotel Show Student Design Competition and Awards", an event that aims to encourage and inspire the development of creative and innovative young talent in the field of interior design and architecture within hospitality. The Interior Design Department at AUD is the Official Academic Partner of DMG worldwide media, and for this year, the theme is "The Hotel design of the Future."
The AUD ID Students who ranked in the first place are the "TPR" team members Miss Erum Kamal, and Miss Reem Moussalli, who are led by Dr. Chadi Chamoun, Chair of Interior Design at AUD and Mrs. Annamaria Lambri, AUD Assistant Professor of Architecture & Interior Design. Their design, along with all the finalists' projects will be executed as a full-scale model and displayed for three days at the Dubai World Trade Center, Hall 3 - Stand F220, at 3:00pm from the 15th till 17th of May, 2012.
Commenting on their experience throughout the competition, Ms. Kamal and Ms. Moussalli said: ''Sustainability is a key area of development nowadays given the climate change and its environmental impact. Our task started off simply with an idea of how to utilize a material that is wasted abundantly. Using that as a base, we wanted to create an experience that establishes the 'green' trend as the norm for future design. Being green is not limited to using sustainable materials or including plants in an interior space, thinking green extends into many different branches, but all what a designer needs to do is expand his or her knowledge by thinking outside the box. By designing the hotel room the way we did we were able to enforce an action by imprinting a memorable experience.''
The scope of the competition was to develop a creative correlation between luxury and sustainability within innovative hospitality design concepts; the primary objective of the projects was geared towards developing an unforgettable guest experience. The various competition entries focused on innovation and new typologies of design in the hospitality industry, with particular attention on the evolution of the 'Guest Room' and how that may also translate into the 'Interior Environments' & 'Exterior Skins' that house them.
Describing 'The Hotel Show Competition' as being a challenge in terms of timing and topics such as sustainability, Professor Lambri commented: "I am personally very happy to have been able to participate in this prestigious event with excellent projects from our AUD students. This represents for them a first step in the 'industry', working closely with all the 'actors' involved and following all the phases of a project, including the construction. I would like to thank Dr. Chadi Chamoun for the great support and Miss Robyn Sokol, DMG Operations/Events Manager for the coordination; we are all very excited to be part of this memorable experience!''
The Interior Design Program at AUD is aimed at producing highly qualified career-oriented graduates who are able to integrate art, design, technology and business practice, with the skills and knowledge to produce highly functional and aesthetically appealing interior environments.
