ANKARA- Turkey's national security council (MGK) on Monday advised the government to close its air space to the Kurdish Regional Government in Northern Iraq and start efforts to hand over its main Habur border gate with the autonomous Kurdish region to the central Iraqi government.

In a statement following the council's meeting, chaired by President Tayyip Erdogan, the MGK also advised the government to extend an ongoing state of emergency, imposed shortly after the failed coup attempt in July 2016.
