• The Dubai and Milan based Project Management and Engineering company has provided project management services for the pavilions of Sweden, The Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Italy, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Greece, Angola, Lithuania and DP World.

Dubai, UAE :  UAE and Milan based Project Management & Engineering company, LC&Partners, are marking the completion of 12 pavilions at EXPO 2020 for which the company has provided a variety of services including design management, procurement support, project management, construction management, works supervision, and ongoing facilities and logistics management.

The Netherlands, Peru, Philippines and Mexico, were complete design and build projects, with LC&P managing the entire construction process, from concept stage to delivery and beyond, while those of Italy, Sweden, Chile and Greece were shell designs provided by the participant countries. The company also provided project control services to the contractor ARCO Turnkey Contracting for both the Angola and Lithuania pavilions.

LC&P was also involved in the construction of a 10-metre high internal digital curtain water feature in DP World’s pavilion fully interfaced with the pavilion’s audio visual system, to match the operator shows, working closely with the specialist Italian supplier, Watercube.

One of LC&P’s initial briefs came from Sweden, a 25,000 sq.ft (approximate) pavilion designed by Allesandro Ripellino Arkitekter, with local support by Dawson Architects, with a very robust focus on sustainability.  The entire structure is made from 1,300 tons of structural wood and is inspired by the metaphor of the forest, a key component of it being a free ground floor enabling visitors to wander through a woodland environment, reflective of Sweden’s great outdoors.

The Pavilion for The Netherlands also focuses on sustainability, its central feature being an 18-metre high cone-shaped vertical form, a biotope made from steel and covered with edible plants, essentially a miniature world where the climate is controlled naturally. The water, energy and food sectors are strongly linked to showcase unique integrated solutions that create a more sustainable world. The pavilion is built entirely in steel, without use of concrete, even for the foundations works.  All construction materials were locally sourced and most of them will be returned to the supplier at the end of Expo2020 event. LC&P showed highly effective project and construction management skills and capabilities throughout the two years construction timeline for such a non-conventional, “first-of-a-kind” building for the UAE market.

As a company which was originally founded in Milan by an Italian CEO, Lorenzo Candelpergher, it was a convenient choice for the commissioner of the Italian Pavilion.  The LC&P team provided the full gamut of project management services, including ongoing facilities management and logistics to support an evolving events and exhibition program for the pavilion. Located in the Sustainability District of the EXPO site the pavilion is a 25-metre high imposing structure whose roof is comprised of three inverted hulls depicting the three colours of the Italian flag.   The concept of the pavilion is an innovation hub featuring specifically, a 260 sq. metre gallery, an 83 sq. metre Academy and a 48 sq. metre central studio, all areas designed to accommodate the pavilion’s programme of edutainment, business functions, training and cultural presentations.  A central attraction is an exact scale replica of Michelangelo’s David, a 6-metre high 3D printed sculpture, an imposing feature in the central exhibition area of the pavilion.

Lorenzo Candelpergher, CEO of LC&Partners comments: ”It’s been an honour to work with, and in many cases continue to support, such a diverse array of countries and briefs to interpret and deliver their respective visions.   The challenges of time constraints, coupled with COVID 19 restrictions were realities of the task at hand, but thanks to our professional team and our trusted reliable network of suppliers and consultants, we were able to meet fulfilment deadlines and supersede expectations.

“The next challenge will involve dismantling some of the pavilions so that they may be used again in different guises and in other environments.  The “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” principle applied to Sweden’s Pavilion is the ultimate sustainability initiative and we are very pleased to be playing a key role in that endeavour.  With the experience of EXPO 2020 now part of our DNA, we are now looking ahead to Osaka 2025, and the further growth opportunities that it will bring now that we have proven credentials in delivering these very unique and original projects.”

LC&Partners was established in Italy in 2004 and set up Middle East offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat between 2009 to 2015, from where the company has delivered projects across a plethora of sectors, including Commercial and Private Residential, Hospitality, Industrial, Aviation and Infrastructure.
