Al-Ain, 24 May 2015: The UAE's premier provider of long-term care and rehabilitation services, Cambridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center, has opened a state of the art facility in Al Ain to meet growing demand for high quality care.

Building on the center's success since opening a facility in Abu Dhabi last year, Cambridge is extending its individualized long-term care and leading physical, occupational and speech rehabilitation to Al Ain residents.  With the aim of restoring both health and hope and rebuilding resident's lives after discharge from acute care hospitals, the new facility will serve an additional 80 patients, raising total capacity in both facilities to 160 residents.

Cambridge Medical caters to patients in need of post-acute long-term care as well as acute rehabilitation with a high level of physiotherapy, as well as treatment for a broad range of conditions including spinal cord injuries, neuromuscular diseases, such as a stroke, as well as birth defects in an environment that boasts clinical excellence and utmost comfort for resident and their families.

Since opening in April of 2014, Cambridge Medical has admitted over 80 patients and many have either been rehabilitated and reintegrated into their community or reached a level where family and loved ones can provide the care they need at home.

"Cambridge Medical is a home away from home, a place where families can rest assured their loved ones are well cared for in a positive atmosphere that encourages hope, progress, wellbeing and personal care" said Dr. Howard Podolsky, Cambridge Medical & Rehabilitation Center country CEO. He added: "We strive for progress through all our practices. Our valuable partnerships with both Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, a Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital, and Joslin Diabetes Center make us an industry leader in the UAE and provide us access to unrivalled experience, knowledge and best practice in the sphere of long-term care and rehabilitation therapies, making us a key driver of regional practice standards".

Working closely with the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and health insurance provider, Daman, the new facility will play an important part in supporting patients who no longer need to be in an acute care hospital and are in need of long-term care or rehabilitative treatments. "The extension of our specialized care services to Al-Ain further cements our dedication to providing  world-class healthcare services in the UAE , and reducing the need for patients and their families to travel abroad", said Carl Stanifer, Cambridge Medical & rehabilitation Center's Chairman of the Board and Senior Advisor to TVM Capital Healthcare Partners. According to Mr. Carl, there is a lack of such highly tailored services in the UAE and in turn patients are faced with the choice of either staying in much needed acute care beds in both private and public hospitals, or travelling abroad for post-acute care.

Dr. Sabahat Wasti, Medical Director Rehabilitation at Cambridge and World Federation of Neuro-Rehabilitation (WFNR) Regional Vice President believes that the need to travel abroad for post-acute treatment, rehabilitation and long-term care is quickly diminishing, "Our staff receives regular education and training by Spaulding representatives and the facilities undertake auditing and evaluation procedures devised to promote clinical excellence and an overall patient and family centric experience. Coupled with our dedication to boasting an environment of progress, and a team of world renowned and highly specialized clinical professionals, we continually strive to offer unsurpassed post-acute long-term care and rehabilitation in the region and alleviating the need of our Emirati patients to travel abroad", he said.
