Manama, Bahrain: Bahrain Specialist Hospital, one of the leading private centers, on the occasion of World Diabetes Day announces the launch of the Diabetes Care Center under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health to cater for the growing needs of diabetes care in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The center's mission is to provide comprehensive and complete care to the patients with diabetes under one roof.

According to the Ministry of Health, the Kingdom is considered one of the countries most affected by diabetes where the incidence of diabetes is 16.3% of the adult population in the age group between 20 - 79; an age group that is considered to be the most important for social and economic productivity.

Dr. Kasim O. Ardati, Bahrain Specialist Hospital’s Managing Director shares, “Given that diabetes is a disease that impacts all aspects of a person’s life it is not enough for a patient to only visit a doctor who will examine them and prescribe the necessary medication for diabetes. Hence, the Diabetic Care Center will be using a comprehensive approach for the treatment of Diabetes in order to help patients understand and act upon to maintain their health.”

Dr. Maher AlShaheen, Specialist Endocrinologist adds, “The Diabetes Care Center focuses on the prevention, management, and treatment of high blood sugar, as well as associated disorders such diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy, coronary heart disease, and stroke. The center's primary goal is to help diabetic patients in improving blood sugar control, achieving target blood sugar levels with ease, and reducing acute and chronic disease complications such as heart & cardiovascular disease, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy as well as reducing diabetes-related pregnancy complications.”

“Our multidisciplinary team of endocrinologists, Internists, ophthalmologists, cardiologists, nephrologists, neurologists, dieticians, physiotherapists, and diabetes educators will provide comprehensive care all under one roof. All diabetic services, including customized diabetic care programs, doctor consultations, screening for diabetes complications, personalized nutrition, exercise and lifestyle management, diabetes education and awareness, will be provided at the Diabetes Care Center”, further added by Dr. Syed Muneebuddin Ahmed, Internal Medicine Consultant.

The Diabetes Care Center at Bahrain Specialist Hospital, Juffair, will be open to patients starting November 14th, 2021.
