BRUSSELS, Feb 21 (Reuters) - The European Union and Britainare moving towards a separate legal statement in which the blocwould again stress the temporary nature of the so-called Brexitbackstop for the Irish border, diplomats in Brussels said.

They spoke of a "parallel declaration" or "interpretativeinstrument" on the backstop, a day after British Prime MinisterTheresa May and the head of the European Union's executive,Jean-Claude Juncker, met in Brussels to seek a way out of theBrexit deadlock.
