Iraq has found that about 1,590 projects have been stalled due to negligence and mismanagement by government offices, the official Alsabah daily said on Tuesday.
An anti-corruption body created after the recent street protests discovered that those projects have only been partially completed although they are worth $billions.
The paper, quoting a statement by the Prime Minister's office, said the anti-corruption committee discovered the faltering projects after field visits to government departments and project sites over the past few months.
"The committee found that there are about 1,590 stalled projects worth $billions...they have been delayed or shelved because of negligence and malpractices by ministries and other public departments," the report said.
Several officials associated with those projects will be interrogated about the causes of the delays which "seriously affect government performance," it added without providing details of the projects.
