Egyptian National Landline Operator Chooses Oracle for E-Business Transformation Following Comprehensive Evaluation

CAIRO, Egypt, March 14th , 2004 – Oracle Corporation, the world’s largest enterprise software company, today announced that Telecom Egypt has selected Oracle Human Resources Management System and Payroll modules of the Oracle E-Business Suite. Telecom Egypt, one of the Egypt’s largest organizations, operates more than 10 million lines and has more than 50,000 employees based around the country, making day-to-day administration a complex task.

The E-Business Suite modules included in the project include Oracle HRMS (Human Resources Management System), Payroll, Time & Labor, Self Service, HR Intelligence, Training and a pilot implementation of iLearning.  The wide-ranging implementation automates all aspects of routine human resources management and allows Telecom Egypt to devote more time and investment to its customers and business development opportunities.

“Telecom Egypt is one of the larger and more geographically widespread operations in the Middle East, so automating our human resources processes provides a single perspective on all of our staffing resources around the country.  Telecom Egypt’s size alone demonstrates the sophistication of Oracle solutions -- the biggest companies rely on Oracle to simplify and streamline routine procedures.  By choosing an integrated human resources approach, with modules covering various functions from Payroll to Training, Telecom Egypt has secured long-term cost and efficiency savings,” said Eng. Aida Ismail Sector Chief of Information Technology, Telecom Egypt

“We began our plans to automate all Back Office business in late 90s. We started with the financial systems. Human Resources system was the natural module to follow the financial system; given the pressing need that TE management felt to more effectively manage its large workforce of about 50,000 employees. It included also the replacement of the existing legacy payroll system. These automation projects are aimed at improving our internal process, reducing costs, increasing efficiencies, and as a result, prepare the company for the privatization that is planned for the company in the not so far distant future. Telecom Egypt considered the various tender offerings made by globally known vendors through a complicated and exhaustive series of tests, allowing us to evaluate fully Oracle E-Business Suite applications,” added Eng. Ismail.

Oracle Human Resources Management System (HRMS) empowers organizations with the tools to find, extract, and analyze data related to human capital. This HR intelligence help’s companies to rapidly deploy the best resources for maximum employee productivity, satisfaction, and retention.  Oracle Self-Service HR allows the workforce to update and use employee-specific information, online via a browser, that is personalized to an individual's roles, experience, work content, language, and information needs. By allowing managers and employees to access and manage information and transactions in a paperless environment, organizations can streamline business processes, decrease costs, and improve service.

Telecom Egypt already uses Oracle software to manage its billing, accounting, Procurement, finance, and business intelligence. With its selection of Oracle HRMS Telecom Egypt considered to be the largest HRMS implementation in the Middle east with respect to the Workforce, joins a long list of telecommunications operators in the Middle East who have already selected Oracle E-Business Suite modules including Bahrain’s Batelco, Jordan’s Mobilecom and Fastlink, SyriaTel, Kuwait’s Watania Telecom, and MTC Vodafone, Saudi Telecom, and Etisalat.
