Dubai, August 24, 2004 - Instead of spending money on readymade sand art patterns and simply pouring on readymade coloured sand, kids now have the opportunity to go one step beyond and create their own coloured sand and designs and learn to create crafts from scratch during the Rainbow World workshops being held at Dubai malls during the ongoing Colour Surprises week.
The sand art and other workshop components provide a lesson in ingenuity that teaches kids to rely on their own imagination and creativity to invent new things and look at the world differently instead of readily accepting pre-packaged entertainment, during Colour Surprises, the final week of Dubai Summer Surprises 2004.
Children will be given watercolour paints and a supply of sand to create coloured sand, and then shown how to create designs on sticky paper and cut out the necessary portions, and combine the two to create highly individual sand art pieces.
In other Rainbow World workshops, children can also learn how to create photo frames from wood or thick clay and then colour and decorate it according to their fancy. There is also a pottery workshop, where children can select a vase of their choice and learn to embellish it with a variety of raw materials; and a soft-clay painting workshop where children learn to mould paints into a grid.
The Rainbow World workshops also feature a free raffle, where children with the lucky numbers will win a variety of fun prizes. All participants will also receive gifts including colours, Modhesh toys and T-shirts from the Department of Health and Medical Services.
The Rainbow World workshops run daily from 5 pm to 10 pm, at six city malls: The Al Bustan Centre in Ghusais, the BurJuman Centre, Oasis Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Ghurair City in Deira, Deira City Centre and the Bin Sougat Centre in Rashidiya.
Omar Al Falasi, member of the "Colour Surprises Committee" said: "Every Rainbow World workshop is intended to trigger the creative spark in children. We also have several activities lined up for the younger set - drawing and colouring - for which they will receive beautiful gifts."
Dubai Summer Surprises 2004, which began on June 17 with the Art Surprises organised by the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department will end on August 27 with the current theme week of "Colour Surprises" organised by the Department of Health and Medical Services.
