Successful 5 day workshop, Global Certificate in Meetings Operations 1 (GCMO1), held in Doha to meet demand for event organizing skills

Meeting Professionals International (MPI), in partnership with Qatar MICE Development Institute (QMDI), have announced that the Global Certificate in Meeting Operations 1 (GCMO1) will be held for the second time in Doha due to the positive feedback from the initial course which ran last year. The training course will take place at the Millennium Hotel from 15th - 19th February 2009 to cater for the growing need for event management skills to support the emergent events industry in Qatar.

Mohammed Jassim Al Naama, QMDI Deputy CEO said: "MPI is the worlds' largest association for events and meeting professionals and it gives us great pleasure to host this valuable program to further boost the growing local 'MICE' sector. GCMO1 is led by top international MPI trainers who will deliver premier industry skills and global best practices in organizing events."

The course offers a comprehensive understanding and practical knowledge of event organization, management and operations and covers the following topics:

Event management methodology

Venue operations and selection

Budgeting & financial reporting

Contracting & legal issues

Registration & housing

Plan F&B to budget

Managing A/V

Risk Assessment

Carina De Moura Lawson, Community Support Supervisor, Qatar Foundation, who attended the last course, remarked: "The course taught me industry-accepted methods of work, the expected level of professionalism required when handling events from 2 to 2000 people, and how to thoroughly negotiate a contract. As event planners, our ultimate responsibility is ensuring that our stakeholders increase their return on investment."

GCMO1 is sponsored by Qatar Airways, Sahara Tours, Millennium Hotel and the media partner is Al-Ufuq Magazine. The delegate fee of $2500 is inclusive of the 5 day training, all the course material and the student assessment. Once completed, participants receive their internationally recognized certificate.
