PASADENA, CA (September 5, 2013)
Parsons announced that it was recently awarded a consultancy contract by Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) to manage the development of Delma Port, located about 40 km off the coast of the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The development of Delma Port--a crucial transportation hub to and from Delma Island that is used for general cargo--will include a 300-m concrete wharf designed for heavy loads and new floating pontoons to create a marina setting for more than 280 boats. This endeavor will also boost existing facilities for local fishermen, improve provisions for water sports, and support ferry services and other public amenities.
"This project is a special undertaking and we are delighted to support ADPC in their effort to transform Delma Port into a well-developed strategic hub," said Guy Mehula, Parsons MENA+ president.
As the former capital of pearl diving, Delma Island has a rich historical and cultural heritage, with many leisure facilities, one of the UAE's most beautiful beaches, and landscapes with farms and plantations that grow a wide variety of local produce. A growing number of tourists visit the island every year.
