Panasonic, the leading global manufacturer of consumer electronics, has announced the launch of a series of new DVD video cameras - the VDR-D310, VDR-D220, VDR-D160 - in the Middle East that support a wide range of DVD recording media. The VDR-D310 is provided with a 3CCD camera system that has an established reputation as professional broadcast apparatus, Panasonic's unique Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.), and Leica Dicomar Lens.

The O.I.S. is also provided to the VDR-D220, super-telescopic models incorporating a 32x optical zoom function. The O.I.S. effectively rectifies the shaking and blurring that have a measurable adverse influence on the screen when the zoom magnification is high, thus realizing clear and stable video recording. The VDR-D160, which is a compact model that attaches importance to the reduction of weight, completes a full lineup of DVD video cameras satisfying a variety of needs.

Furthermore, in addition to conventional DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, and DVD-R recording media, the new digital video cameras support dual layer (DL) DVD-R discs with a storage capacity of 2.6GB, thus overwhelmingly excelling conventional single layer DVD-R discs with a storage capacity of 1.4GB.

"Once again, Panasonic's focus has been on making video cameras that are much more user-friendly than conventional models. This new series of DVD video cameras offer a host of features that are aimed at ensuring high quality output in different shooting conditions," said Yasuo Kimoto, Product Manager, Panasonic Marketing Middle East.

Panasonic has downsized its professional 3CCD camera system for use in consumer models. In a 3CCD camera system, the light received through the lens is split into its three primary colour components (red, green and blue), and the signal from each is processed by one of the three CCDs. Compared with conventional 1CCD camera systems, Panasonic's 3CCD system provides more vivid, true-to-life colours, greater detail and richer gradation.
