Abu Dhabi - November 12, 2012: In line with its commitment to providing quality healthcare for the community of Abu Dhabi Emirate, Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS), a SEHA HealthSystem Facility, celebrated the closing of the 2nd Healthcare Quality Week under the slogan "The Face of Quality".
The week long activity, which took place from November 4-10 recognizes and demonstrates AHS's continuous commitment to quality improvement and safety. The event this year witnessed enthusiastic engagement from staff across the whole network of AHS including Ambulatory Care Centers, Disease Prevention & Screening Centers, and School Health Services.
The event aimed to increase awareness about quality, foster coordination and collaboration, and strengthen AHS's foundation for future quality and safety initiatives as well as accreditation projects.
Rashid Saif Al Qubaisi, AHS Chief Executive Officer, commented: "The Healthcare Quality Week Celebration fosters creativity, teamwork, responsibility, and collaboration among AHS staff; these are important aspect of organizational success and staff empowerment. This celebration demonstrates management support for quality and safety all throughout AHS. This is also a manifestation of our effort to create a safety culture for our patients, customers, visitors and staff. Earlier this year AHS became the first organization in the world to achieve JCI Network Accreditation, which confirmed that our healthcare is provided according to international quality standards."
The Healthcare Quality Week event included a variety of activities and competitions. The competitions aimed to foster a friendly competition environment and presented an opportunity to discover staff creativity, ingenuity and critical thinking skills.
Commenting on the event, Dr. Azhar Ali, Directory of Quality at AHS, added "This event was designed to support AHS's mission towards providing quality healthcare. This included competitions for quality improvement projects, quality booth, poetry (English and Arabic), and photography, all centered on this year's theme, 'The Face of Quality'."
The week-long event culminated in the closing ceremony which took place on Saturday, November 10 and witnessed the participation of AHS staff and was attended by distinguished speakers in the field of Excellence.
Mr. Yasir Al Naqbi, Manager of Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance, presented Abu Dhabi's Journey to Excellence.
Meanwhile, Dr. Luke Feeney, Consultant & Director Quality & Accreditation, Institute of Leadership, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, discussed the means of building systems that can provide the society with the highest levels quality and exceptional service. He stated that the greatest challenge facing AHS is how to maintain the level it has reached and how to embed the concept of quality, excellence and sustainable development in this vital sector.
The closing ceremony also included announcing and awarding the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each competition.
During the closing ceremony, Rashid Saif Al Qubaisi, AHS CEO, announced "In line with our goal to achieve excellence, I would like to take this opportunity to announce that AHS has applied for the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award. Over the coming year we will be working hard to apply the internationally-recognized EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) Excellence Model to achieve excellence in the management of AHS."
