NAIROBI  - The chairman of the board of Kenya's biggest telecoms operator Safaricom, John Ngumi, has resigned from his post, the company said on Thursday.

The board will elect a new chairman in the coming weeks, the company, which is partly owned by South Africa's Vodacom and Britain's Vodafone, said in a statement.
