Tehran, July 31st, 2007 (WAM)- The world's largest hand-woven carpetwas unveiled here on Tuesday.

The 45-ton green coloured carpet, custom made for Sheikh Zayedbin Sultan Al-Nahyan mosque in Abu Dhabi, will be transported to the UAEcapital by two airplanes.

The manager of Iran Carpet Company (ICC) said 1,200 selected carpetweavers and scores of experts had been involved in weaving the four-piecerug which took one year to complete at an estimated cost of US$8.5 million.

Covering an area of 5,700 square meters, the carpet has a uniquedesign, featuring five big medallions depicting various traditional flowermotifs. About 30 tons of wool and 15 tons of cotton were used in weavingthe mammoth rug.
