Designs for Phase 3 are ready and its construction will be completed tentatively by 2018.

Qatar will tender Phase 3 of its new Hamad International Airport in early 2015 following its full commissioning this week, according to a media report on Wednesday.

The USD multi-billion airport, spread on an area of around 29 square kilometers, will be officially inaugurated in October or November after Qatar Airways and other carriers shifted their operations to the new airport on Tuesday, said Abdulaziz Mohammed Al-Noaimi, Chairman of Qatar Civil Aviation Authority.

Phase 3 will be completed within two to two and a half years after it is launched in 2015, said the national Arabic daily Al Raya.

"The designs for Phase 3 are ready...tenders will be issued in early 2015 and we expect the cost of this stage to be within the specified allocations," said the chairman.

Without giving the cost estimates or other details about third phase, the official said the fully completed airport would include 16 passenger halls, more than 100 restaurants, cafes and shops, a transit passenger hotel, a swimming pool, a spa, a squash sport hall, a four-level food supply complex and a mosque to house more than 500 people.
