The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) has launched online registration services for importing livestock. It has also linked all the livestock farms through an online system to monitor the health of animals across the country.

MoAF's animal welfare department launched the programme with the help of the Information Technology Authority (ITA), which is implementing the e-Oman project. "Companies and individuals dealing with livestock can log in to the ministry's website to complete procedures for the issuance of licences to import livestock," a senior official at the ministry told Muscat Daily.

The objective of online registration is to simplify procedures and develop a smooth workflow in livestock farms. "The process will help provide accurate data and raise the level of performance and proficiency of staff at these farms," the official added.

As part of the online licencing programme, the ministry has also linked veterinary quarantine centres on the Omani border. "This will help follow up on the issuance of health certificates to animals passing through the borders, and in maintaining monthly and annual reports on the status of animals in the country," the official said.
