Denmark's Maersk Oil&Gas is pushing ahead with contracting for its massive Al Shaheen oilfield expansion off Qatar, with SLP Engineering of the UK picking up an award covering six accommodation platforms and McDermott looking well placed for a job to supply two wellhead platform topsides, writes Mark Hillier.

Industry sources said that SLP already has the job to provide the accommodation platforms, although no confirmation was forthcoming from the yard. McDermott, through its Jebel Ali Yard in Dubai, is understood to have its nose in front of Spain's Dragados for the wellhead topsides job, albeit with the race yet to have reached final award.

A number of other packages are also out to bid, including three major ones covering process and utility platforms. Maersk, which operates Al Shaheen under a production sharing deal with Qatar Petroleum, is carrying out a $5 billion expansion at the field to raise production to 525,000 barrels per day by 2009 fromthe current 240,000 bpd.
