Dubai: The Bits Pilani Dubai Campus (BPDS) defeated Middlesex University by nine wickets to win the 11th BITS Sports Festival Inter-University cricket tournament.
In the final, Middlesex, who opted to bat first, made 177 for 7 in 20 overs. BPDC reached the target in 16.4 overs with an opening partnership of 132 runs through Nagarjun’s 94 off 54 balls and Vidur’s 45 off 31 balls. BPDC, who reached the final with a 28-run win over Skyline University, won with 20 balls to spare.
Madan Lal, former Indian Test star and a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, was on hand to dish out the prizes.
Over 1,200 students, both boys and girls, representing 21 universities and colleges from all over the UAE, participated in the festival’s other events.
In the boys football final, University of Sharjah beat Gulf Medical University 2-1 while in the throwball girls tournament University of Wollongong emerged champions with Bits Pilani Dubai Campus runners-up. The volleyball boys winners were University of Sharjah while Bits Pilani Dubai Campus finished second. However, the volleyball girls steered Bits Pilani Dubai Campus to the title, with University of Wollongong runners-up.
In the boys and girls table tennis, American University of Sharjah took the titles with Bits Pilani Dubai Campus ending up as runners-up in both. University of Sharjah won the boys volleyball title while the girls basketball final was won by University of Wollongong.
