Bahrain will become the first country in the Middle East to have a university specialising in environmental engineering when Euro University is set up in the Kingdom.
The plan to set up the university was announced yesterday at the Adlon Hotel in Berlin at a ceremony held under the patronage of the Southern Governor and Head of the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife, Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
A cooperation agreement was signed at the ceremony by the head of the university’s founding committee, Dr Ahmed Al Janahi, and the Vice-President of Hanover University, Prof. Dr Liselotte Glage.
Shaikh Abdullah said the university’s foundation-stone would be laid in an area next to Awali on February 4, the National Environment Day in the Kingdom. He expressed his pleasure over Bahrain being chosen to host the university which, he said, would provide specialised expertise in the field of environment.
