Dubai: Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, has extended his full backing for the Ajman R Holding Rally to be held this weekend.
Held under the patronage of Shaikh Ammar and organised by the Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF), the rally has been renamed the Ajman R Holding Rally with scrutineering at 6pm today.
The Ajman-based R Holding, a group of companies with interests in the real estate, industrial and financial sectors, has over the years shown a keen interest in motorsport.
Going into the final round of the Saloon Class rally, current leader Shaikh Abdullah Al Qasimi should not find it difficult to drive away with the championship given that he already has an unassailable lead at the top with wins in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
With former champion and younger brother Shaikh Khalid Al Qasimi opting for BP-Ford Abu Dhabi in the World Rally Championship, all eyes will now be on other promising drivers such as Michel Saleh, Rashid Al Ketbi and Ron Oakley to challenge Shaikh Abdullah's dominance.
Following today's scrutineering at the AAA premises in Dubai, the rally will be ceremonially flagged-off at 4 pm on Friday from the Ajman City Centre for the Spectator Stage on an especially laid out 1.6km track adjacent to the shopping mall. In continuation of a precedent set last year, a rally car belonging to veteran driver Sadiq Fadhil will go on display at the Ajman City Centre from tonight. The actual rally will be flagged off tomorrow morning.
