Dubai Municipality steps up campaign to crack down on enterprises that breach rules

Dubai Hygiene warnings issued by government officials to salons and health clubs outnumbered the number of site visits by inspectors by one-third in 2011, the Dubai Municipality said.

Municipal officials pledged to step up the pressure on commercial enterprises which breach health standard regulations imposed by municipal bylaws.

“Total inspections carried out on the health and related institutions in Dubai amounted to 13,850 last year, while the total warnings sent to such institutions reached 19,413,” Redha Salman, director of Public Health and Safety, said in a statement.

Salman said some businesses were not abiding by health codes enforced by the Municipality.

Some of the more common offences include re-using disposable tools designed for one-time use and failing to properly sterilise instruments.

There are several bans in place, Salman said, including the practice of blending henna with other chemicals and using reusable facial towels or shaving sets.
