AMMAN -- The e-health programme "Hakeem" is in the process of establishing an academy that will provide training for health workers and those who want to develop their skills, according to Hakeem CEO Rami Adwan.
In a recent interview with The Jordan Times, Adwan said the academy would provide training for any healthcare givers with BA degrees who want to develop their skills on the use of e-health programmes.
He explained the deployment of e-health systems is booming in Arab Gulf countries, and there will be a high demand on experts in the field.
"We want to prepare Jordanians for the job market," Adwan noted.
He also revealed that an 18-month educational programme on e-health systems will be soon taught in cooperation with Princess Sumaya University for Technology.
In addition, some courses will be taught at the Hashemite University as part of its bio-informatics specialty, according to Adwan.
Meanwhile, the medical e-library, work on which first started last year, would be launched soon, he noted.
The e-library will help doctors access medical research papers and data from around the world.
This year, Hakeem's work will also focus on the deployment of clinical reminders that help care providers conduct regular or requested medical checkups for their patients on time.
Whenever a patient has an appointment with a doctor in a hospital using the e-health system, a reminder will alert the healthcare provider about the regular checkups the patient needs, according to Adwan.
The reminders will work based on the electronic record of the patient.
The Hakeem programme is operated by E-Health Solutions, a nonprofit company that has as stakeholders the ministries of health and information and communications technology, the Royal Medical Services, the King Hussein Cancer Centre, the Private Hospitals Association, the Royal Health Awareness Society and the King Hussein Institute for Biotechnology and Cancer.
Hakeem is based on "VistA", an electronic health record system used by the US Department of Veterans Affairs medical system.
Currently, the programme is being used at Prince Hamzah Hospital and the Amman Comprehensive Health Centre.
Between 2013 and 2017, the programme will be introduced in another 43 hospitals and 81 healthcare centres.
