KUWAIT: The Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Fadhel Safar has signed four contracts worth 110.903 million dinars. One of the contracts signed is for operating and maintaining sewage pumping stations and pipes network, while the three other contracts pertain to maintenance works at the Hawally and Mubarak Al-Kabeer educational department buildings, and the establishment of a head office building for the Ministry of Education.

The total cost of contract signed by the ministry this year has reached KD three-billion", Safar told the press following the signing of the contracts, adding that 115 contracts set to be signed by the ministry were signed previously.

In the meantime, the minister also uncovered the next steps that his ministry intends to carry out, indicating that the ministry is preparing to sign a number of contracts that pertain to the Sixth Ring roads network and junctures with West Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, as well as the projects of lighting the Wafra residential area, in addition to the second stage of Phase One of the Boubyan Island project and the Jaber Bridge project, Safar told Al-Watan yesterday.

In a separate issue, statistics indicat that an increase in the consumption levels for power consumption in Kuwait will force the country to find a proper way to increase power production capacity to an additional 23,000 megawatts within the upcoming few years, instead of 11,000 megawatts which is the level of power produced at present. These statistics have been revealed by the head of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi, who further urged a rationalization of power consumption, as well as finding new sources of power generation.
