According to statistics revealed by the Dubai Government, the amounts collected by the electronic payment system are up 55% in the first half of 2011 compared to the same period in 2010 The electronic payment system lets customers pay their dues to government services securely online.
The recorded amounts collected through the electronic payment system have increased significantly, exceeding 1.7 billion dirhams at the end of June of this year for 1.396.973 transactions compared to 1.1 billion dirhams in the first half of the last year 2010 for 835095 transactions, a 55% increase. Dubai Customs, Dubai Electricity, Water Authority and Health Authority collected the most money through online transactions, while the Health Authority, Roads and the Transport Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority had the most transactions executed.
The online payment system is a Dubai Government initiative that aims to provide government services through innovative channels to simplify and facilitate the public and business community's interactions with the government in Dubai, assuring them instant and secure payment of government fees through an efficient and convenient means so that people do not have to waste time or suffer while going to bank headquarters or other relevant departments.
