Muscat – Oman National Transport Company – Mwasalat – transported more than 850,000 passengers in the first quarter of 2023 compared to 635,000 in the same period of 2022.
With over 9,000 daily passengers, the government-owned company transported the 850,000 passengers within cities of the sultanate.
Mwasalat’s ferry service transported over 60,000 passengers in Q1 2023 compared to 51,000 in Q1 2022.
Omanis made up 37 per cent of the passengers availing the bus service, while on ferries they accounted for 81.2 per cent of the total passengers.
Mwasalat transported over 221,000 passengers through its ferries in 2022.
The ferry service routes include Shinas-Khasab, Shannah-Masirah, Khasab-Lima, Shinas-Dibba, Lima-Shinas, Lima-Dibba, and Hallaniyat Islands–Taqah. Additionally, there are integrated bus and ferry services connecting the Governorate of Musandam and Masirah Island.
According to Mwasalat, the high demand for its bus and ferry services clearly indicates the Omani public’s awareness and interest in public transport services.
The company attributed this to its marketing activities and efforts to develop the efficiency of all the services it provides. Mwasalat firmly believes that its success is dependent on its customers’ satisfaction.
‘The total number of training hours for jobseekers at Mwasalat reached 8,480. The percentage of Omanisation in the company is 92.8 per cent,’ it stated.
