Dubai - October 18th, 2010: WatchGuard® Technologies, a global leader of business security solutions today announced its intent to launch its break-through firewall technology - WatchGuard Application Control - at GITEX 2010. With WatchGuard Application Control, businesses can gain granular control and threat protection from more than 2,000 applications, including popular applications like Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, YouTube, and Skype among others.

By leveraging more than 2,300 unique application signatures, WatchGuard Application Control enables the firewall to identify and control more than 1,500 applications.  This provides businesses freedom to align business needs with IT and security policies, thereby gaining greater efficiencies and improved productivity. Administrators can also gain unprecedented visibility and control over applications traversing their networks. Available in Q4 2010 and starting at AED569 (US$ 155) for a one-year subscription, WatchGuard Application Control will be available for all WatchGuard XTM series of multifunction firewall appliances.

With WatchGuard Application Control, administrators can select which applications to control from 13 major categories such as Mail (HotMail, Gmail), Peer-to-Peer (Gnutella, Bittorrent), Remote Access Terminals (TeamViewer, GoToMyPC), Data-

bases (MS SQL), File Transfer (Megaupload), VoIP (Skype), Streaming Media (YouTube, Hulu), Network Management (MS Update) and Tunnel Applications used to bypass firewalls (Ultrasurf, Avoidr).

WatchGuard Application Control will be available with the next WatchGuard XTM OS update, WatchGuard XTM 11.4.  The major new features in Fireware XTM 11.4, present in the Application Control Technology include:

  • Application Control.

  • Enhanced IPS with scanning on all ports.

  • Authentication enhancements (Terminal Server/Citrix support; 802.1x in 2 Series Wireless; multiple AD domain support; Secure LDAP support; simultaneous manual auth and SSO).

  • Configuration History and Rollback.

  • Centralized Management Template Enhancements.

  • Rogue Access Point Detection in 2 Series Wireless.

This new technology will be launched at the WatchGuard® Technologies stand (United States - Gulfcomms Zabeel Hall Z-M11) at GITEX 2010, being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 17th - 21st, 2010.
