New E-services set to improve municipality services to the city
Sharjah, February 26th , 2007: In order to provide the community faster and more reliable services, a website will be available for a variety of applications for construction, drainage and sewage expansion, municipal laboratories and driving institutes. The order was given by Sharjah Ruler, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Head Council. The program aims to improve and develop services to the public by implementing the electronic government program of Sharjah. Sharjah Municipality is preparing for the launch of the new E-Services electronic government. After fine-tuning several technical details, the project is now in the final stages and will be introduced through a variety of specially planned programs and machines.
The electronic program was scheduled for launch in mid 2007. However, Sharjah Municipality has received various offers from companies specializing in computerized services. Therefore, the Municipality is currently in the process of reviewing the best companies that will be able to undertake the project.
Under the guidance of H.E. Salem Mohammed Al Owais, Chief of Sharjah Municipal Council Office and Chief of the Municipal Council of Sharjah City, the Technical Information Department has launched a study to learn about the various methods and mechanisms of the electronic services. The study aims to provide clients with the best and most user-friendly service for better communication between Sharjah Municipality and their clients.
Referring to their current efforts in creating an efficient electronic service, H.E. Salah Al Haj, Director of Sharjah Municipality said, ""This service can be considered as a major leap in the Municipality's effort to better serve the clients. The services program will provide greater means to communicate with clients from various companies and establishments. Clients will also be able to use these applications for follow-ups and fee payment by simply visiting the Sharjah Municipality website. It's a safe and easy process that's guaranteed to save employees time and effort."
The electronic services program (E-services) will provide applications such as building licenses, import services, drainage and sewage expansion, municipal laboratories services and driving institutes.
In order to better explain the program's technical services, Mrs. Farida Abd Al Kareem Abd Allah, Sharjah Municipality's Head of IT Department explained, "For building licenses, the engineering consultant can present his application and be issued a construction license through the Municipality website, where all the information requirements are available. Payment of fees and enquiry applications can be done electronically on the website. The client can also follow the application, check the date of approval, and receive all the necessary application details via e-mail. On-line applications are available at any time of the day".
She added, "Services for importers will include on-line registration renewals, a feature that's guaranteed to save clients and Municipality employees time and effort. The service will also allow importers to review all subtracted tenders in the Municipality and find out payment dates. The services will also available for the drainage and sewage expansion services for buildings and houses in Sharjah City and other areas that are currently in the process of improvement".
Applications will be electronically received through the website and users will receive a text message on their mobile phones or an e-mail confirming an appointment to view and visit the site in order for the Municipality to improve its services to its people.
The fourth application that will be available is the municipal laboratories services. The service will allow clients to book appointments to examine samples in municipal laboratories (construction laboratories, nutrition, concrete, etc.). Laboratory results will be sent via e-mail.
The fifth electronic service available is the application for driving institutes. Users will be able to schedule exam appointments and pay fees, along with other related services."
It's important to mention that field services will also be present during regular office hours at the Municipality building. The electronic program is a faster and more efficient means for Sharjah Municipality to provide its customers with the best service.
