DOHA: ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order to supply two new substations to the Ezdan Real Estate Company, one of Qatar's biggest property developers.
One 132/11 kilovolt (kV) substation will supply power to two new shopping centers, the Al Gharaffa and Gulf malls, being built in Doha, to serve the country's fast-growing retail market. The second 66/11 kV substation, EZDAN-5, will serve a new residential area. The fast-track project is scheduled to be completed in around 14 months.
"These substations will enable more power to reach consumers, helping to meet increasing electricity demand and support the growing economy of the region," said Oleg Aleinikov, head of ABB's substations business, a part of the company's Power Systems division. "They will also strengthen the transmission and distribution network and improve reliability of power supply."
As part of the turnkey project, ABB will be responsible for the design, engineering, supply, construction and commissioning of the substations. The compact design and footprint of the substations makes them ideal for densely populated urban areas where space is limited, says ABB.
ABB will also supply gas-insulated and medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, low-voltage auxiliary systems and power cables. The substations will be equipped with IEC 61850 compliant automation, control and protection solutions.
