NABEUL - Belgian 3B Fibreglass company is to achieve a production unit in Bouargoub, in the Nabeul governorate, at investments of more than 230 million dinars (MTD).
This project, which was launched six months ago and which is to create some 5,000 jobs, finds it hard to start operating as a result of delays of regularisation of its situation for the land plot on which the factory is to be built.
In a statement to Tunis Afrique Press (TAP) News Agency, Mr. Marc Segers, representative of 3B Fibreglass voiced anxiety about these delays while the company honoured its financial commitments estimated at more than 5 MTD.
"The document, pertaining to the change of the agricultural vocation of the 20-hectare plot, is essential for obtaining a building permit, and thus start of the construction works," he said.
Though, the official voiced understanding about the events the country has been going through since the January 14 Revolution. This Revolution, he said, "is an opportunity to enhance investment and promote sound businesses environment."
The fiberglass-making project was adopted by the higher committee for large-scale projects, dissolved after January 14.
The investment allocated, at a first stage, are estimated at 230 MTD and it would reach 500 MTD at the second and third stages. The unit's production capacity would be of 120,000 tonnes/year.
Some 650 jobs will be created during the first stage with an employment programme of some 5,000 labourers with the completion of the project.
According to Mr. Segers, the unit also makes available possibilities for technology transfer and for job creation, notably for engineers and higher technicians who would represent 20% of the total jobs created.
Once fully achieved, the unit would rank third the world over, according to the 3B Fibreglass official.
