Victoria, Mar 01, 2012 (WAM)--Seychelles President James Alix Michel and representatives of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) laid here today the foundation stone of the 6MW- wind farm granted by the UAE to Seychelles.

The new wind plant will contributed 11 per cent of electricity to the main Seychelles' Island of Mahe.

Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of (ADFD) said the plant comes in line with the commitment of ADFD to support the sustainable economic development in the developing countries.

For his part, Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Chief Executive of Masdar said the project embodies the commitment of the wise UAE leadership to build the bridges of friendship and cooperation with the developing and developed countries as well.

Seychelles' Minister for Home Affairs, Environment, Transport and Energy, Joel Morgan said "the setting up of the foundation stone comes in the wake of two years of cooperation between Masdar and Energy Corporation in Seychelles.

Also Present were Bader Al Lamki, Director, Masdar Carbon, Joel Morgan and Rashed Al Kaabi, Projects Manager, Operations Department, ADFD.
