Dubai: Cigna, a global health services company dedicated to helping people improve their health, well-being and peace of mind, has announced the upcoming eighth edition of its monthly Cigna Park Run. To add an extra incentive for the participants, the company has partnered with Cycle Souq and Spartan Bikes to provide its active community of runners with the opportunity to win a bike in a raffle draw.
Set at Al Ittihad Park on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah on Saturday, May 4, the eighth edition of the Cigna Park Run will offer the choice of a 2.5 km and 5 km course and target individuals of all ages and fitness abilities. The free-to-attend event is a fun way to exercise outdoors in the company of like-minded fitness enthusiasts.
Despite the prevalence of gyms and the recognized value of exercise, public health concerns about lifestyle conditions such as diabetes, obesity and mental health issues continue to rise. Small, often simple lifestyle changes can have a significant positive impact on our physical and mental health and well-being.
The Cigna Park Run seeks to motivate the public to make such changes. Run by the community for the community, the event brings together people from all walks of life to exercise and support one another, while inspiring and stimulating them to embrace good health. Benefits include improved fitness, reduced loneliness and isolation, and increased confidence and self-esteem.
In line with the Cigna Heart Your Heart campaign, the Cigna Park Run also supports heart health across the UAE. The initiative raises awareness about the risks high blood pressure (HBP) or hypertension poses to heart health and highlights the importance of an active lifestyle in coping with other health related issues to HBP.
The Cigna Park Run is a year-long series of fitness events designed to encourage people to prioritize their physical well-being and treat themselves to a community day out at their favorite neighborhood park. The family event has attracted a high uptake each month, with participants keen to enjoy a fun morning of exercise and other fitness activities. The overwhelming response has contributed to Cigna’s objective of supporting the goal of Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai the most active city in the world.
Since its inaugural outing in May 2018, over 3,400 Dubai residents have registered for the monthly run that will continue until June 2019 before taking a break for the summer.
